The reason why Force Of Will will be great in Modern is because it allows blue decks to have a chance to actually play a game against a lot of the field. With FoW you trade 2 cards and 1 life (~2 and 1/3 cards) for 1 card. Just compare it to collective brutality against burn - you trade 3 cards worth for 3 cards worth. Countering something that the deck can function perfectly without is a bad idea, be it an unique card that gives it a minor speed boost, or just one of its million interchangeable threats. Sarcasm aside, its a terrible ide to use FoW against cards that you opponent can do without. But anyways if you FoW vial its just becomes a "bad sorcery speed tribal beatdown deck" according to our wise tunnelvisioned overlords from r/spikes. Not to mention if you Fow Aether vial from humans you are surely going to win as they always keep 1 landers thanks to vial - so FoW is blood moon. Yeah baby force of will that lightning bolt! Realistically if you were unable to find answers to enoform combo in modern multicolored decks, you were simply too lazy to take a look.įorce is helpful because it is good against most linear decks while still being playable against interactive decks, if much less so. ![]() Green can EASILY ramp into some answer on its t3, and sometime on its own t2. Red completely lacks answers - but it has burn, which makes "fizzling" with said combo pretty easy, sadly unlike grishoalbrand it has to deal with the body left on the field. Or simple good old Go for the Throat - if you are content with something less exoticīlue can bounce it in a million ways, or simply Pongify (or Rapid Hibridization) it away. That is not to say that other colors don't have ways to dispatch Griselbrand early - black is more than capable of such feats, it offers the most versatile arsenal of removal cards, like: Sinister Concoction (if you need something to deal with a hasty emrakul the aeons torn) Vendetta Wretched Banquet That is if playing Path to Exile in a format rife with graveyard based recursive threats is too much to ask. If everything else goes to hell Vapor Snag & Snapback is still a blowout - against any deck, that needs to place large amounts investments into a single beatstick, be it a delve creature, hollow one, or something transmogrified from allosaurus rider. these are all 1 mana cards that are able to counter Neoform Spell Pierce Mana Tithe Stubborn Denial Cursecatcher / Judge's Familiar / Mausoleum Wanderer Invasive Surgery Swan Song on this note, what card do you guys think could better serve as the format's policeman? Obviously this isnt all linear decks in modern and it does seem pretty solid against a couple, but in general force strikes me as lackluster in a format where the linear decks have so much redundancy. Tron: certainly strong and would probably delay them, but wouldnt solve the problem of tron's inevitabilityĭredge: could stop a turn 1 faithless or conflagerate, possibly slowing them down a turn or two, but not great against a deck that barely casts spellsĪmulet Titan: could get a turn 1 amulet or a titan, probably pretty good here (although they often have a cavern for the latter anyways)īurn: solid against eidolon or a turn 1 creature but mediocre otherwise UR Phoenix: could snipe a TITI or a crucial spell, but seems pretty unexciting otherwise its possible i could be totally off base, but lets look at some of the top linear modern decks and see how good force seems against them: Okay, so ive heard force of will being reprinted in modern horizons be posed as a solution to modern's linearity, and while im not necessarily opposed to that.how many of the top linear decks would it actually protect against? dont get me wrong, its def good against linear decks and does a great job to police them in legacy, but many of the top linear decks in modern dont hinge on a particular card as much as most linear decks in legacy do (which they can afford to since theyre faster).
